Breakthrough is looking for an Associate/Senior Associate to join our Portfolio Management team. This position will be responsible for all functions related to supporting management and reporting on the Fund’s portfolio of life science property investments including overseeing investor responses, modeling Fund performance and returns, and collaborating on periodic appraisals and business plan updates. Responsibilities for this position include:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Fund Marketing/Fundraising

  • Working with Director of Investor Relations to support fundraising campaign efforts and respond to investor DDQs and inquiries.
  • Catalog investor responses and maintain internal database to expedite turnaround time and enhance consistency.
  • Prepare marketing content including, but not limited to, pitch books, custom presentations, case studies, due diligence material.

Portfolio Management/Fund Operations

  • Develop and maintain dynamic Fund valuation models including actuals, reforecasts, and speculative investment activity.
  • Report investment and portfolio return details to internal parties and external investors.
  • Monitor investment performance including reviewing portfolio liquidity, working capital, and capital call considerations.
  • Track portfolio diversification against thresholds and monitor industry economic and market trends
  • Forecast capital needs, subline draws, and financing strategies in coordination with the Fund Operations and Debt Capital Markets teams.
  • Complete quarterly valuation memos capturing portfolio highlights, updates, and performance
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regional and national appraisal firms and coordinate with local Asset Management teams in completing periodic property appraisal valuations.
  • Monitor property performance and operations in conjunction with local Asset Management teams and Head of Property Accounting.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field required, MBA or CFA preferred
  • 4-8 years of related experience in investment banking or real estate private/public equity
  • Direct experience in fund modeling or with institutional private equity firms will be a plus
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
